Did you sleep through your chance for prosperity?

Did you sleep through your chance for prosperity?

Sunday morning, I called my brother to see if he would be ready for me to take him to church. He said he would. Then I asked him if he would be ready in twenty minutes. He said he wouldn’t. He had forgotten to set his clock forward an hour.

He apologized profusely that he wouldn’t be going to church with my wife. I attend somewhere else.

I felt for my brother. He’d failed to wake up in time to get ready for something important.

I have had similar feelings as I’ve awakened to other things that are important in my life. Like having my finances in order.

It’s an uncomfortable feeling. I want to be ready when prosperity strikes. Sometimes, I miss out.

Does that mean I’ve missed out entirely?

In the moment, it can feel like I have.

When I have a chance to step back and look at the situation from a broader perspective, I realize that while I may have missed something in the moment, another opportunity soon arises.

With our recent change to Daylight Saving Time, I’m finding myself trying to reacclimate to the change in time and rhythms.

On the surface, it seems like a small change of the clock. Spring forward an hour.

It’s not such a small change in practice. I have long struggled with my sleep patters. There have been too many sleepless nights to count, going back as far, at least, as sleepover at friends houses. They would go to sleep easily. I would toss and turn through the night, until sometimes I would gather my things and head back home hoping I’d be able to sleep in a familiar environment.

Studies have shown just how important sleep is. My body, and mind, have shown me how important sleep is. And yet, sometimes I struggle to sleep.

Other times, I struggle to wake up in time to take advantage of opportunities. Currently, I am moving back and forth between the schedule that I’d grown accustomed to before the time change, and the schedule after the time change.

It’s more than a change of numbers. Each moment of the day leads into the next.

The same is true for creating prosperity. There isn’t a single moment when prosperity arrives. If you miss it, it’s gone forever. It’s more like a gradual approach to greater prosperity.

The counsel for those trying to prepare for the clock springing forward is to make small adjustments leading up to the change. It’s not as difficult of a transition that way.

The same is true for changing your level of prosperity. Rather than going from night to day, it’s better to take a gradual approach. Focus on one financial habit at a time. As you adjust, introduce another change.

Before long, you find the practice of prosperity is natural.

Shine brightly!
